Biography
Mericha Rochelle Walker is originally from the island of New Providence in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Mericha has always had big dreams. Growing up she spent the majority of her days at an after school program at Gray's Music Centre. During this time she received the Darlene Laramore award for most improved female vocalist and excelled in her Trinity College in London examinations up to the eighth grade level. Mericha impressed a very well known Bahamian artist, Kayla Lockhart-Edwards, who in recognizing her growth over the years, couldn't wait to see the artist Mericha would become when she got older. Mrs. Lockhart-Edwards was an inspiration to the young budding singer. All throughout high school Mericha won awards, year after year, in various categories of the National Arts Festival. The most outstanding of these awards was Best Female Gospel Vocalist in the Bahamas 2004. She is a graduate of Temple Christian High School having attended the institution from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
In 2009, she was nominated for a Marlin Award in the "Adapted Praise & Worship Recording of the Year" category for the song "All That I Am" from her debut album "The Heart of Worship". In 2010 she was also nominated for two Marlin Awards in the adapted Praise & Worship Recording and Long-Form Video of the Year categories for her album and live DVD “The Heart of Worship Live”. In July 2012 she was recognized as one of the leading ladies of Gospel Music in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with Shaback Ministries International. In June of 2013, Mericha completed a double bachelor’s degree, in Youth Ministry and Worship Ministry at Prairie College in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. In addition to completing her education she toured with the school's leadership during her four years at the college.
In addition to her vocal abilities, Mericha was entrusted with leading her church's youth ministry at the tender age of sixteen and has served in youth ministry for 17+ years. Mericha is constantly seeking to find different avenues for not only ministry, but also solutions to decrease some of the social ills the young people of The Bahamas encounter on a daily basis by volunteering over the years in intervention programs for S C McPherson, Government High School and C H Reeves Junior High School.
Mericha currently serves as a minister of the gospel, installed July 17th, 2019, while singing at weddings, funerals, conferences, gatherings, special events and with the group Denczil Rolle & Friends, teaching voice lessons, training church groups, facilitating ministry consultations and seminars for youth leaders and music ministries. She is a certified vocal coach, audio engineer and administrator. Mericha has a passion for young people and was recognized on a national level by The Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture where she received the Louise Simmons National Youth Ally Award in 2021 for her excellence in youth work. In addition, Minister Mericha was apoointed as the first Female 1st Assistant General Youth Director of The Highway Church of God Bahamas in April of 2022.
Mericha loves everything fashion and turned her passion into a business by launching “The Style Concierge” in 2018. She provides closet and event consultation in addition to personal shopping and styling advice.
Mericha Walker is currently employed at LIFE Worship Center as the church Administrator and Director for Teen LIFE Youth Ministry in addition to being the manager and radio personality on their radio station Glory 93.9FM and the host of “Girl Talk”. She is the daughter of Floyd Walker and Mary Lightbourne- Walker.
Mericha's life so far can be summarized in these three words, PASSION, PURPOSE AND PURSUIT.
